Washington DC Natural History Museum 1

我先注意到的不是象牙，而是臼齿上一排排横脊。大象把粗硬植物夹在上下臼齿之间反复研磨；旧牙磨损后，新牙会从后方向前水平推进。这里的关键词是水平换牙（horizontal tooth replacement）。
